After School Enrichment – S.T.E.A.M. Program

Somerset Academy’s After School Program (S.T.E.A.M.) operates Monday through Friday, from 3 pm to 7 pm.  The program offers a safe and nurturing learning environment that provides tutoring/homework assistance, literacy, and academic, cultural and social enrichment activities, in addition to safe, fun and constructive play alternatives for students in kindergarten through ninth grade (K-9).

Nicknamed S.T.E.A.M., (which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) the after school program hosts a variety of initiatives for children and youth during non-school hours.  As such, the program is aligned with, reinforces, and complements, the content of a child’s regular school day, while offering extended learning opportunities.  In addition, S.T.E.A.M. provides opportunities for relationship building amongst students that fosters social development while encouraging positive character development strategies, recreational, and life skill activities.

As a collective, core recreational activities may include, but are not limited to, the visual and performing arts, music, computer science, robotics, physical education, health/nutrition promotion, and general recreation.  S.T.E.A.M. also seeks to provide career awareness, work preparation/goal setting, community service-learning, and other youth development activities based on students’ needs and interests.  All activities are designed to enhance the overall development (cognitive, emotional, cultural, and social) of each and every child participant.
